CLAYTON, NC – Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in a grocery store parking lot in Clayton on Friday afternoon, reports WTVD.
The incident took place at about 12 p.m. at Lowe’s Foods at 11711 Clayton Boulevard (US 70). Police said a store employee was collecting shopping carts in the lot when she was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The worker, identified as 52-year-old Ann Grandfield of Clayton, died after being transported to WakeMed. The driver of the SUV, 56-year-old Charlie Lee Walker Jr. of Clayton, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
