DURHAM COUNTY, NC – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to a multi-vehicle wreck in Durham County that disrupted the Wednesday morning commute, according to CBS17.
The collision took place on Interstate 885 near mile marker 5 at about 6:30 a.m. The NCSHP said five vehicles were involved – a tractor-trailer, two passenger cars, an SUV and a pickup truck. At least four people were transported to an area hospital, though no details were immediately available on their conditions.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-885 for several hours while emergency crews were clearing the wreckage, and traffic was backed up for miles through the area.
State troopers are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
