W. Ross Weatherspoon was raised in Baker City, Oregon and moved to Wake County in 2008. He served as a missionary for his church in the Dominican Republic for two years from 2006 to 2008 and learned to speak Spanish fluently. He received a BS from East Carolina University and a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Ross married his wife, Rachel, in 2010 and they have two children.
Before Ross attended law school, and while he was finishing his undergraduate degree, he worked as a law enforcement officer for the Raleigh Police Department. Throughout Ross’ career in law enforcement, he gained invaluable experience testifying in criminal district courts, superior court, and federal court. As a police officer, Ross served as a Spanish language translator and was assigned to work in one of the busiest districts of Raleigh. During this time, Ross had the opportunity to engage with members of the community from all walks of life and was able to learn effective de-escalation strategies and employ those strategies to peacefully resolve contentious disputes.
Ross is a task-oriented person and the life experience he gained in the Dominican Republic and with the Raleigh Police Department enabled him to effectively manage his time and succeed academically in law school. While in law school, Ross was awarded a full-tuition scholarship and was selected to serve as Senior Editor for the North Carolina Central Law Review. Ross was also selected to work as an Academic Success Fellow and he volunteered his time two days a week reading to kindergarteners at Burton Elementary School in Durham, North Carolina. Upon completion of law school, Ross graduated Summa Cum Laude.
After graduating from law school, Ross passed the bar exam and was admitted to practice law in North Carolina. Since joining Younce, Vtipil & Baznik P.A., Ross has concentrated his law practice in family law. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA), NCBA Family Law Section, and the NCBA Young Lawyers Division.
In his free time, Ross enjoys spending time with his active family. They love hiking in the North Carolina Mountains, camping, and exploring the many local state parks.
