Multi-vehicle collision in Johnston County leaves 1 driver dead, 2 injured

JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC – A three-car collision in Johnston County on Wednesday morning left one of the drivers dead and two others injured, CBS17 reports.

The fatal crash took place on Interstate 40 near mile marker 313.  According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the vehicles were all heading east shortly before 9 a.m. when a vehicle in the middle left lane and a vehicle in the middle right lane made contact.  That caused them both to hit a Cadillac in the far right travel lane, causing the Cadillac to cross all lanes of traffic and collide with the median barrier.

The driver of the Cadillac, identified as Ashley McNair, died at the scene.   The other two drivers were transported to WakeMed but no details were released on the extent of their injuries.   Charges are pending in the case, the NCSHP said.

The accident shut down the eastbound lanes of I-40 in the area for about two and a half hours.
