On July 7, senior partner Chip Younce was ordained as the Bishop of the Cary Second Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to preside over a very active congregation of 433 members. He will serve in the position for about five years and, like almost all clergy in his church, will be unpaid. When asked why he would take a job that required an average of 25 hours per week to add to his law practice and family responsibilities, Chip replied, āThis is not the kind of job you campaign for, or apply for, or even volunteer for. When the call comes, you accept it with full heart because itās part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. If Iām going to call myself a Christian, I have to accept the call regardless of whether itās inconvenient or hard. Iāve only been doing it for a month and a half now, but next to being a husband and father and grandfather, itās the most rewarding thing Iāve ever done.ā
